• Crashes snarl local traffic

    BERLIN — Police responded to two separate two-vehicle crashes Friday — both on the Barre-Montpelier Road.

    One of the crashes happened just after noon; the other, just before 1:30 p.m., according to Officer Kyle Kapitanski of the Berlin police.

    The first accident took place near the Berlin State Highway, and the second was near Windshield World, said Kapitanski.

    The first crash resulted in significant damage to one vehicle and moderate damage to the second. One of the people in the accident may have suffered a minor injury, he said.

    The second crash resulted in minor damage to both vehicles and no injuries.

    No one from either accident was taken to a hospital by ambulance, Kapitanski said.

    Traffic was “heavier than normal on the Barre-Montpelier Road at the time of both crashes, due to a traffic-related incident that occurred in Barre City earlier in the day,” a news release from the Berlin Police Department said. Traffic had since returned to normal flow, police said as of 3:30 p.m.

    The accident in Barre, involving a truck striking power lines, led to North Main Street being temporarily closed to traffic in both directions, Barre police said.

    Names and further details in the two Berlin accidents were not provided.
