THETFORD — Lillian T. DeVaux, 92, died from complications of a stroke on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born on the family farm in West Fairlee Center on June 30, 1921, a daughter of Alonzo and Daisy May (Geyer) Jennings. She graduated from Bradford Academy in 1940.
She worked as a young girl at the Colton Farm in Thetford before moving to Norwich.
She married Cupid Twitchell in 1940. He died in 1943. She later married William DeVaux on Feb. 22, 1952, in Hanover, N.H. They lived in Norwich and operated DeVaux’s Gun Shop. He died in 1994, and she moved to Thetford in 1997.
She worked as an operator for the Dartmouth switchboard and later as a bookkeeper at the Dartmouth National Bank and then as office manager at the Hanover Improvement Society. She also sold Avon beauty supplies in the 1950s and ’60s and worked occasionally as a substitute teacher.
She enjoyed trap shooting and had been a member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. She also regularly attended gun shows with her husband. She was an avid reader, loved the Boston Red Sox and the Celtics, and enjoyed politics, walking and gardening.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Irene George, Verne Winn and Pauline Russin, and two brothers, Alfred Jennings and Melvin Jennings.
She is survived by her children, Louise Twitchell Reitano, of Medford, Mass., David M. DeVaux, of Vershire, Dennis A. DeVaux, of Thetford, and Cynthia DeVaux Rocchio, of Windsor; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Norwich Congregational Church with a reception to follow and burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Norwich at 1 p.m.
