Daniel Webster tabs McCambly and Fimiani to lead inaugural varsity hockey programs
NASHUA, N.H. — Daniel Webster College has announced the hiring of two former Norwich University men’s ice hockey standouts to lead their inaugural men’s and women’s varsity hockey programs in 2014-15.
Eric McCambly ’94 has been named the head men’s coach after spending six years at SUNY Canton, guiding the Roos to three ACHA National Tournament appearances and compiling a 115-40-5 record from 2007-2013.
McCambly scored 32 goals and notched 28 assists for 60 points in 82 career games played at Norwich.
“I am excited to join the Daniel Webster College community,” said McCambly in a press release on Daniel Webster’s Athletic Website. “As DWC expands the growth of NCAA Division III ice hockey in my home town of Nashua, I’m equally excited to work with a supportive and innovative group of faculty and staff here at the College. I look forward to expanding the work of longtime program supporters and coaches such as Paul Labarre, Jean-Guy Letarte, and John McAnespie.”
“My intent is to establish a strong foundation and field a competitive program with an emphasis on graduating outstanding civic-minded young men in four years,” McCambly added. “My goal is to create one of the most competitive ice hockey programs in the northeast that will vie for a conference and a national title in the years to come.”
DJ Fimiani ’10 will take the reins of the Daniel Webster College women’s ice hockey program after spending three years as an assistant coach with the Salve Regina men’s hockey team.
Fimiani was part of a Cadets program that posted a combined four-year record of 81-24-8 and served as assistant captain with the 2010 NCAA Division III National Champion squad that went 26-1-4. His career also included four straight ECAC East regular season championships, two ECAC East Tournament titles, three NCAA tournament appearances, and two NCAA final fours. He retired with 86 points over 102 contests.
“I am excited about the opportunity of starting the new women’s program here at DWC and look forward to building the program from the bottom up,” said Fimiani in a Daniel Webster Athletics press release. “I think we have a great competitive advantage in recruiting and in the next few years we will be building towards a competitive level while promoting the academics and hockey brand name her at Daniel Webster College.”
“In the short term I hope to establish a ground floor by introducing young women to the college hockey world and prepare them for the level of competition at which they will be playing,” Fimiani continued. “By recruiting locally, nationally, and even internationally, I expect that over time that we will be able to compete at a conference and ultimately at a national level.”
