MONTPELIER -- Vermont's Congressional delegation is opposed to U.S. military intervention in response to rising conflict in Iraq.
Vermont Public Radio reports that Sen. Patrick Leahy opposed sending U.S. troops to Iraq 11 years ago and still feels that way. He also thinks there are problems with using American air power against militants who have taken several cities in Iraq and threaten to topple the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Sen. Bernie Sanders and U.S. Rep. Peter Welch also oppose any military action in Iraq and say a regional solution is needed.
President Barack Obama has been weighing a range of responses, including sending a small contingent of U.S. special forces to Iraq to help train security forces there and launching limited airstrikes.MORE IN This Just InBERLIN — Free trade talks between the European Union and the United States have failed, Germany’s...
