MILTON -- Police say so far they have found no evidence at the scene to back up reports by two campers who say they were attacked by bears in Milton.

Police say 44-year-old Ladonna Merriman and 28-year-old Lucas Gingras were taken to the hospital Wednesday, Merriman with serious injuries and Gingras with minor injuries.

Police say Gingras told them that a bear and two cubs had attacked them at the camp where they were staying. He says the bear tried to get into the cabin and somehow a camp stove got knocked and set the cabin on fire.

Authorities say the pair was able to make it off the mountain and were driven to a home where rescue crews were called.
