    Attempts at murder

This is in response to a recent letter from Toronto, Ontario, referring to the acquittal of the woman who attacked a police officer. While in the Legislature, and with excellent support, I saw one of my bills become law: attempts at murder that fail are now charged as murder.

As with some other bills, it happened locally, and the young woman who was left for dead went through a long, extremely painful recovery. Though near death, and because of her strength and nearby campers in the woods, she survived and has been an extremely productive citizen. It can certainly pay off to follow through on weaknesses in our legal system, and, yes, change is possible.
