Assault on I-89 reported Saturday
WATERBURY — Vermont State Police are looking for information about an assault and attempted robbery Saturday at a rest area on Interstate 89 in Waterbury.
State police say they received a call from Bryon Stueber, 25, of Northfield, saying he was at the rest area on I-89 northbound when a male approached him asking for help changing a tire. Stueber told state police that when he approached the man’s vehicle, the man assaulted him and a second man tried to take Stueber’s wallet.
Stueber told state police he was struck several times in the head and was stabbed with a kitchen-type knife. The pair then left the scene.
Stueber was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Both men are described as white, with one estimated to stand 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slender build and a scruffy dark beard and hair. The other man is described as 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall with a slender build, dark hair and a buzz cut.
The vehicle is described as a smaller four-door sedan with Vermont license plates.
