Food drive success
A heartfelt thank you from Just Basics Inc.ís Montpelier Food Pantry to all of the volunteers and organizations that made our food drive a huge success. After receiving just a few hundred pounds of food in 2013, the community rallied in 2014 to donate nearly 7,300 pounds of food. While the Montpelier Food Pantry received the bulk of the food, the Christ Church and Plainfield Food Pantry benefited as well.
We could not have done it without the local newspapers and radio stations that publicized the food drive at no cost; we couldnít have done it without Green Mountain United Way, which helped spread the word far and wide; to Price Chopper for donating bags; to residents and businesses that filled bags or boxes or wrote checks; to volunteers who sorted, boxed and transported.
Most of all, we couldnít have done it without our local post office and its union. Management worked closely with us to plan and coordinate the drive. Postal carriers worked hard and willingly to collect and haul all 7,300 pounds from doorstep to truck. At the very last stage, postal workers helped volunteers weigh and sort it all.
They even fed a few of us stragglers dinner.
We are grateful to this most generous of communities and hope to eclipse the 7,300 pounds next year.
