WHITE RIVER JUNCTION -- The director of the veterans hospital in Vermont says a recent audit that turned up problems at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, found only "some inconsistency" in access to clinics in her state.

Deborah Amdur at the VA Hospital in White River Junction tells Vermont Public Radio a visit by the Inspector General's evaluation team hasn't returned a report yet. She said informal feedback about wait times was mostly positive.

She says access for new patients in primary care is "terrific," and that the hospital has emergency walk-in availability for mental health services.

The hospital isn't commenting specifically about Kryn Miner, a veteran who was fatally shot in April after allegedly threatening to kill his family. Miner's wife said he failed to find timely care in VA facilities.
