Leafie A. Sylvester Rites
BARRE — A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on May 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Montgomery Center, Vermont, for Leafie A. Sylvester, 102, of North Barre Manor, who passed away on Jan. 13, 2014.
The Rev. Karl A. Harr, pastor of the church, was the celebrant, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Daniel L. Pudvah, deacon of St. Monica Catholic Church of Barre, who also read the Gospel and led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Organist and soloist Fredda Ploof sang “I Heard the Voice of Jesus,” “The Lord Is My Shepherd” and “How Great Thou Art.” Also played, as per Leafie’s request, were “The Lord’s Prayer” and “One Day at a Time.”
Words of remembrance were shared by Kristin Dodge, a niece.
Readings from the Old Testament were read by Linda Vachon, a niece; and Laurie Vachon, also a niece, read Scriptures from the New Testament; also two poems were read by Jody Lynn Pecor, a niece.
Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Alexis Dodge, Drew Pecor and Kyle Pecor, all great-great-nieces and nephews.
Assisting as Eucharistic minister was Deacon Pudvah.
Pallbearers were: Leo Sylvester, Robert Sylvester, Christopher Dodge, Jason Pecor and Larry Letourneal, all nephews, and Michael Carbonneau.
Burial followed the Mass at St. Isadore Cemetery in Montgomery Center, where Father Harr offered committal prayers. Roses were also placed on her casket by Alexis Dodge, Drew Pecor and Kyle Pecor, great-great-nieces and nephews.
The Black Lantern Inn put on a luncheon after the services in Montgomery, Vermont. They purchased the suites at Black Lantern (Burdett House) that was auctioned off back in 1989 from Leafie’s auction, when she decided to move to Barre to be closer to her sister, Elaine Sylvester Pollander.
