SOUTH BURLINGTON — Trader Joe’s plans to open its first store in Vermont next week.

Company officials say a grand opening is planned at the South Burlington store May 16.

Trader Joe’s is a grocery chain that prides itself on private-label items that the company says don’t include genetically modified ingredients or artificial flavors and preservatives.

South Burlington approved plans for the store in July.
