• Solar power project underway at Coventry landfill
     | May 10,2014

COVENTRY — A solar power project is under construction at Vermont’s only operating landfill, in the town of Coventry.

The solar farm is expected to produce enough electricity to power 261 homes for a year.

The 9,018-panel ground-mount solar array is being built in the site’s buffer zone.

Landfill owner Casella Waste Systems sold the solar project last fall to Borrego Solar Systems Inc.

Casella CEO John Casella said the installation will allow the company to utilize the entire property to generate energy.
