    COLCHESTER — Colchester narrowly defeated Spaulding during the Lakers’ home game Monday.

    Brittany Isabelle hit a two-run single in the seventh to push the Lakers ahead. Colchester’s Merenda Turner was her team’s top hitter by going 3-for-4. Allison Hinton was the top hitter for Spaulding, going 4-for-5 with a double. Teammate Elydia Pacetti went 4-for-6, adding to the Tide’s offensive effort.

    Rachel Cleary was the winning pitcher, allowing 17 hits, issuing six walks and recording one strikeout. Spaulding’s Brooke Benoit was the losing pitcher, allowing 17 hits, issuing five walks and giving up 10 runs.

    “It was a back-and-forth gam and, both teams played hard.” Spaulding coach Brandon Fowler said. “Colchester scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning, so it was definitely close. They just edged us out.”

    Spaulding falls to 1-4 and will host Essex today. Colchester improves to 2-5.
