    Norman A. White

    BARRE — Norman A. White, 87, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home.

    He was born in Williamstown on April 18, 1927, the son of the late George and Helen (Fuller) White.

    He attended schools in Cabot and Williamstown. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for eight years.

    In 1954 he returned to Barre, where he worked at the E.L. Smith Quarry as a torch burner operator until his retirement in 1981.

    On July 8, 1950, he married Florence M. St. John in Barre. They lived in California first, and in 1969 they returned to Barre. She died Aug. 26, 1993.

    He enjoyed playing in a band, with his friends, called Swinging After 60.

    Survivors include one daughter, Colleen White, and her partner, Kathy Decoteau, of Barre; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Kathleen Prescott.

    A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Berlin.

    Burial will be at a later date at Hope Cemetery in Barre.

    Arrangements are in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre.
