ST. JOHNSBURY — The Vikings packed in four scores below 44 to easily hold off second-place Montpelier during Wednesday’s four-team meet at the St. Johnsbury Country Club.

Jay Cobb snared medalist with a 3-over 38 and was followed by teammates Kurtis Raymond (39), Cooper Arseneault (40) and Hunter Murray (43). Leading the way for the Solons were Jay Zecchinelli (42), Tom Connor (43), Brian Cain (46) and Mike Gibson-Davis (49).

“It was cold and misty, but everybody hung in there very well,” Montpelier coach Brian Cain said. “We shot a very solid 180 and we just went up against the state champions, and they had two guys under 40.”

Kiernan Nichols (48), Adam Badger (49), Trevor Newton (49) and Kiley Moody (50) were the top golfers for third-place Peoples Academy. Lake Region’s Sam King fired a 44. On the girls’ side, U-32’s Jade Blais claimed medalist honors with a 64.

Montpelier will travel to a meet hosted by Lake Region on Monday.
