    MONTPELIER — Lamoille pulled away from Montpelier for a 16-3 baseball victory on Friday afternoon.

    “It was 3-0 after three, and then they scored seven in the fourth,” Montpelier coach J.B. McCarthy said. “They had 11 hits.”

    Riley Fitzgerald earned the win for the Lancers, pitching all five innings, striking out eight and allowing two hits.

    “He pitched really well,” McCarthy said.

    Montpelier’s Connor Cossett took the loss, pitching the first three innings.

    Tom Nowlan and Andrew Holt each had singles for the Solons. Montpelier’s runs were scored by Zak Grupp, Nowlan and Richard Holt.

    Montpelier drops to 0-3 and plays Peoples Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
