BURLINGTON -- A 26-year-old Vermont man will serve a year and eight months in federal prison and five years of supervised release on a federal child pornography conviction.

The office of U.S. Attorney Tristram Coffin says Gerard Mascola of Windsor was detected sharing child pornography over the Internet by special agents from the Office of Homeland Security Investigations.

Mascola was indicted by a federal grand jury in July and pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in December.

Mascola's lawyer, Douglas Kallen, said he did not wish to comment about the case.
