2 Vermont troopers, man shot in LeicesterApril 06,2014
Staff and wire reports
Vermont State Police said they received a 911 call shortly before 3 a.m. today from a woman who said that someone had entered their home and shot her husband while they were in bed.
State Police said they responded to Lake Dunmore Road in Leicester and the victim was taken to Porter Hospital in Middlebury and then transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, according to police. He is listed in stable condition, police said.
State Police said they developed information that led them to the home of Timothy Foley, 47, located directly across Lake Dunmore Road from the residence. Police said Foley would not come out of the house and one trooper was able to speak with Foley on the phone from a neighbor's home but he still wouldn't come out.
Trooper set up a perimeter around Foley's house and at some point shots were fired from within the house at troopers who were behind a tree in the front yard. One of the troopers was hit in the head with shotgun pellets and another trooper returned fire with patrol rifle to allow the injured trooper to get to safety, police said.
The second trooper was then shot at and also hit in the head with shutgun pellets, according to police.
Both troopers were able to get to safety and were taken by other troopers to Porter Hospital. One trooper was treated and released and the other was taken to Fletcher Allen for more treatment, police said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
After the shooting, a state police hostage negotiation team member, speaking on the phone from the Rutland barracks, was able to convince Foley to leave his home and surrender.
Foley was taken to the New Haven barracks and is now in police custody.
Charges are pending and the investigation is continuing.
Detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to investigate both shooting incidents.
Members of the Crime Scene Search Team responded to process the scene. A search warrant was obtained for Foley's residence.
The Addison County state's attorney responded and is working closely with detectives.
At this time, the names of the male victim and troopers are being withheld per protocol.MORE IN This Just InHONOLULU (AP) — A group of Hawaii musicians and a Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant provided... Full Story
