    Our schools are shared asset

As a senior citizen, parent, grandparent and former teacher, I urge you to support the school budget with a yes vote April 15. The education of children is the responsibility of all of us. Our democracy is built on a publicly well-educated electorate.

The part of the budget increase caused by the state’s change in support is close to 11 percent. The actual increase in school funding is just under 2 percent. This has already resulted in cuts to staff and programs due to increases in health insurance rates, maintenance costs and other expenses.

Montpelier’s schools are a huge asset to all of us. The vitality of our community and our house values depend on the quality of education that we offer Montpelier’s children.

Please support Montpelier’s quality education with a yes vote April 15.
