ST. ALBANS — The death of an inmate at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans on Tuesday is not suspicious, said police investigators, who were awaiting the results of an autopsy before determining the cause of death.
Prison staff noticed 43-year-old Shayn Turner, formerly of Burlington, was experiencing an unspecified “medical episode” at about 1:40 a.m., police said.
Correctional officers and the prison nurse began life saving steps until an ambulance crew arrived, police said. Turner was pronounced dead at about 2:20 a.m.
Turner was sentenced last month to 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl when she was 6 and 7.
Police said he admitted videotaping an assault, possessing thousands of child pornography images and that he shared child pornography online. As part of a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to four of six of the charges that he originally faced.MORE IN This Just InMONTPELIER — The state Public Service Board has ordered Vermont Gas Systems to stop digging...
