MOUNT AIRY, Md. — Marion R. Corson, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Lorien Mount Airy under hospice care provided by Carroll Hospice and Lorien staff.
She was born March 26, 1929, in Barre, Vt., daughter of the late Nattie and Ruth Batchelder, and she was the wife of the late George Corson.
She worked at many shoe, box and plastic bag factories, ITT Lamp Division, Lynn Hospital, all in Massachusetts. She also worked in Maryland at Southern Maryland Hospital housekeeping, Pleasant View Nursing Home housekeeping and as a certified nursing assistant.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Tami Craig, of Mount Airy, and Jay and Susan Craig, of Odenton, Md.; one daughter, Gloria Johnson, of Richmond, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Omie Craig Richey, of Damascus, Md.; a brother, the Rev. Roland Batchelder, of Wilton, Maine; 13 grandchildren, including those residing locally, Carl Craig (wife Stacey), of Manchester, Md., Christeen Craig Moore (husband Clinton), of Linthicum, Md., Kimberlee Craig and Kellee Craig, of Mount Airy, Noah Craig and Rhonda Craig, of Bowie, Md.; 20 great-grandchildren, including those residing locally, Coen, Madison, Connor, Victoria, Abigail, Noah Jr., Sara and Skylar; several nieces and nephews; and close friend Helen Parsons, of Horntown, Va.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, two sisters, Madeline Niska and Joyce M. Lozier, a brother, Robert P. Batchelder, and a grandson, Jay Allen Craig Jr.
A private gathering of her immediate family was held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014. We, as a family, are comforted in our loss knowing that countless others may be given a second chance through research thanks to her gift of her donation to the Anatomy Board of Maryland. Per her wishes, upon her return from the Anatomy Board of Maryland, her cremated remains will be returned to her hometown in Vermont. No public services will be held at this time.
