Red Cross extends hero deadline
BARRE — Since starting the nomination process last month for its first time “Heroes Breakfast,” the Vermont and New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross has received an outpouring of tales of bravery and acts of kindness.
As word of the event spreads across the region, nominations are increasing. As a result, the organization is extending the nomination deadline to March 3, to ensure that everyone who wants to can submit their hero choices.
“It is incredibly heartwarming to read the nominations as they come in,”said Regional Executive Larry Crist. “The nominations we have received confirm what we already knew, that our region is rich in remarkable, community-minded people who give so much of themselves. Our challenge will be to select our hero winners when the nomination period closes.”
The Heroes Breakfast will honor members of the community “who have demonstrated heroism through extraordinary acts of courage or kindness.” The Red Cross is encouraging people to nominate someone to receive an award in one of eight categories: Armed Forces/Military Hero, Animal Hero, Youth Good Samaritan, Adult Good Samaritan, First Responder, Community Impact, Blood Services/Gift of Life, and Spirit of the Red Cross.
The heroism for which the person is nominated must have taken place after September 2012 in order to be eligible for the event in April. To nominate a hero, or to buy a ticket for the event, visit www.redcross.org/vermontheroes or www.redcross.org/uppervalleyheroes, or call (802)-660-9130 ext., 111.
The selected heroes will be recognized at the DoubleTree Hotel in South Burlington on April 29.MORE IN This Just InDUXBURY — Harwood Union High School is preparing a life celebration for five students who were... Full Story
