• Vt. home destroyed after 2 fires
     | February 20,2014

ESSEX — Investigators say problems with a chimney pipe and with a heating system caused two separate fires to the same house in Essex.

The first fire happened Monday. The fire department was able to quickly put out the fire. The family that lived in the house was able to escape without injury.

A larger fire involving the entire house happened Tuesday afternoon. The structure could not be saved and firefighters estimated the damage was well over $200,000.

Investigators determined the first fire was caused by an issue with the chimney pipe. The second fire happened at the opposite end of the house and was most likely the result of an issue with a separate heating system. Neither fire was considered suspicious.
