Israeli film festival next two weekends

RUTLAND — The Rutland Jewish Center is holding an Israeli Film Festival with two award-winning, contemporary Israeli films.

The festival is titled “Welcoming Strangers: Real Israelis, Real Arabs, Real Life.”

On Saturday, “The Band’s Visit,” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. The film is about Arabs and Israelis, shown as ordinary people with hopes, lives and disappointments. Roger Ebert called it one of the 20 best films of the year in 2008.

Then, on March 1, “Ushpizin” will be screened at 7:30 p.m. The New York Times called the film “A raucous comedy and a joyful affirmation of unshakable faith.”

Both films are free and will be shown at the Rutland Jewish Center, 96 Grove St.
