• Maine outshoots UVM women, notches 69-52 basketball victory

    BURLINGTON — Maine limited Vermont to 26 points in each half en route to Wednesday night’s 69-52 women’s basketball win at Patrick Gymnasium.

    Maine improves to 12-11 overall and 6-4 in America East play while Vermont, which lost its third in a row, falls to 6-17 overall and 3-7 in AE action.

    Ashleigh Roberts and Liz Wood each netted a team-high 17 points for the Black Bears, who forced 28 Vermont turnovers while committing just 17 themselves.

    Vermont was paced by Sam Simononis’ 12 points. Kristina White added 11, and Kylie Atwood had 10. Niki Taylor grabbed 12 rebounds.

    Vermont shot an icy 30.4 percent from the field while Maine shot 53.2 percent, including 32 points in the paint and 30 off Catamount turnovers.

    Maine beat Vermont 92-62 in Orono on Jan. 14.

    Vermont returns to action on Wednesday at UMass-Lowell at 7 p.m.
