    8 months for fraud

    BURLINGTON — A former car dealer is sentenced to serve eight months in prison after pleading guilty to odometer fraud.

    The U.S. attorney’s office said Douglas Jordan, 40, of Wolcott was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Burlington.

    A federal grand jury indictment accused Jordan in April 2013 of buying high-mileage used vehicles at auctions and reselling them, while concealing malfunctions in various safety and operating systems.

    Prosecutors said he removed or disabled the warning lights for anti-lock brakes, air bag and check engine warning systems, so that he could resell the vehicles for more than their fair market value.

    In one instance, he was accused of rolling back the odometer by 100,000 miles on a pickup.

    Jordan pleaded guilty to odometer fraud last year.
