In the Jan. 30 Times Argus article ďLawmakers reckon with hike,Ē a certain Montpelier mayor, who shall remain unnamed, was quoted as saying ďvoters need to have more skin in the game.Ē
This is a recently popular talking point, found almost exclusively among a certain subset of those persons whose incomes render their existence more than moderately comfortable. It carries with it an antipathy to the one-person, one-vote form of democracy, implying that the greater oneís financial worth, the greater oneís influence should be as to tax policy. Thanks to The Times Argus for exposing this open contempt toward the democratic process.
