• Held in contempt
    February 01,2014

In the Jan. 30 Times Argus article “Lawmakers reckon with hike,” a certain Montpelier mayor, who shall remain unnamed, was quoted as saying “voters need to have more skin in the game.”

This is a recently popular talking point, found almost exclusively among a certain subset of those persons whose incomes render their existence more than moderately comfortable. It carries with it an antipathy to the one-person, one-vote form of democracy, implying that the greater one’s financial worth, the greater one’s influence should be as to tax policy. Thanks to The Times Argus for exposing this open contempt toward the democratic process.
