    Do we have the answer?

In response to a recent published editorial: ďWeíre not good at executions, so letís stop.Ē

I agree weíre not good at killing inmates, but who is? Botched lethal injections are the latest screw-ups, and before that it was the electric chair frying the poor guyís brains and exploding heads. Hangings that decapitated the condemned man, the Rosenbergs (husband and his wife fried in the ďchairĒ for giving A-bomb secrets to Russia) and the guy who asked for and got a firing squad (Gary Gilmore in Utah in 1977). So, all in all itís a disaster, especially when we find out too late the guy is innocent. So, whatís the alternative?

The British had Australia for a penal colony for some 5,000 inmates and their families. They had so-called convict labor in the 1700s. So, maybe thatís the answer for America. We could purchase some land and use it for a penal colony-labor camp. Heck, we bought Alaska pretty cheap, so there must be someplace we can get a deal on for our new penal colony. No, wait, we already have one: Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp.

Can we make it big enough for a death row population?
