SOUTH HERO — Vermont State Police say a driver who was found dead in a crash in South Hero died of heart disease.

Police say pickup driver Daniel Harris, 63, of South Hero, rear-ended a car before traveling more than 250 feet down an embankment Tuesday night.

Police said Harris had been traveling north on Route 2 when his vehicle for unknown reasons rear-ended the car as it was turning left. Harris’ truck left the road and went through a grassy area into a patch of low-hanging trees.

The car’s driver, 57-year-old Dawn Bugbee, of Colchester, was not hurt.

Police said Thursday that the office of the chief medical examiner has determined that Harris died of heart disease and not a direct result of the crash.
