SOUTH HERO — Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal accident in which a pickup driver rear-ended a car before traveling more than 250 feet down an embankment.

Police said the pickup driver, Daniel Harris, 63, of South Hero died at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 8 p.m. Tuesday off Route 2 in South Hero.

Police said Harris had been traveling north on Route 2 when his vehicle rear-ended a car as it was turning left. Harris’ truck left the road and went through a grassy area into a patch of low-hanging trees.

The car driver, Dawn Bugbee, 57, of Colchester, was not hurt.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
