Shirley A. Barakat
LATHAM, N.Y. — Shirley Dopp Barakat, 69, of Luella Road, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.
Born in Northfield, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Merlin Dopp and Anna Provost Dopp and wife of the late Shawki “Joe” Barakat, who died in 1999.
Raised and educated in Northfield, Vt., she was a graduate of Northfield Senior High School.
Shirley was a customer service supervisor for The Home Depot in Latham for several years.
She leaves behind a rich legacy of a life of kindness and will be remembered as a woman who treasured her family and friends. She influenced those whom she met with her understanding heart, her ready smile and genuine loving concern.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards with her friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital for all of their care, concern and support.
Survivors include her four daughters, Susan L. Preston (Jeffrey), of Berne, Kim L. Taylor (William), of Colonie, Karen L. Barakat, of Latham, and Michelle A. Fettig (Larry), of Oak Creek, Wis., and her son, Joseph S. Barakat (Amy), of Saratoga; 10 grandchildren, Devvan, Dominick, Drew, Ashley, Adriana, Shalyn, Gabby, Joey, Lexy and Emma; her sister, Debbie Cochran (Jeff); her brother, Joe Dopp; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, and at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, with Pastor E. Allen Siebold officiating.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
