Principal had left
when news broke
READSBORO — The former principal of the Readsboro Central School, had already left the position by the time news broke that he was facing embezzling charges.
Michael W. Heller is charged with embezzling more than $4,000 from the school, taking lunch money from students and creating false records to cover up the alleged misuse of money.
A press release Monday said Heller, 40, was cited to appear in Bennington criminal court Jan. 27.
Richard McClements, interim superintendent of the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union, said Heller resigned in December. McClements said he didn’t know the exact date but that Heller said in his resignation letter that his last day would be Jan. 2.
McClements said Wednesday that he didn’t want to release the letter because it hadn’t been formally accepted by the Readsboro School Board, which will meet next week.
Police said Heller had embezzled grant money from the school and about $200 from a fund used for student lunches.MORE IN Vermont NewsMONTPELIER — Vermont Law School Professor Cheryl Hanna, a frequent legal commentator for... Full Story
