BURLINGTON — A 37-year-old woman is facing charges stemming from a purse snatching incident at a Burlington store and police say she is a suspect in a number of similar cases.

Burlington police say Amanda Downing was arrested Monday after a Sunday incident in which she allegedly took a purse from a patron in a Burlington store. The victim alerted store employees and another patron retrieved the purse.

The investigation led to Downing and she was arrested Monday.

Burlington police say Downing was also being investigated by other area police departments for similar thefts. The Waterbury, Winooski, Essex, and Colchester police departments assisted in the investigation.

Downing is being held for lack of $10,000 bail.
