ESSEX — Police in Essex say they are awaiting toxicology results and are applying for search warrants as they continue to investigate the deaths of a father and son earlier this month.
Police said 49-year-old Ludwig “Sonny” Schumacher killed his 14-year-old son, Gunnar, before killing himself. Their bodies were found Dec. 18.
Essex Police Chief Brad LaRose told the Burlington Free Press that investigators have conducted numerous interviews and are working to collect data from computers and cellphones. Police also say the father left a lengthy suicide note.
Ludwig Schumacher was a former Vermont National Guard officer and state Republican campaign official. His son was a freshman at Essex High School.MORE IN Vermont News
