• New rail trail construction planned in Vt.
    December 21,2013

ST. JOHNSBURY-The organization that oversees Vermont's snowmobile trails has initiated construction on a 15-mile stretch of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail between St. Johnsbury and West Danville.

The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/1hqSru0) the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers' job included the installation of two recreation bridges. The first was placed over Mt. Vernon Street in St. Johnsbury and the second over a massive washout in Danville.

The actual trail construction is scheduled next summer and may take up to two years.

The snow travelers started construction this year on a second 15-mile stretch of rail trail between Morrisville and Cambridge Junction, too.

The entire rail trail will eventually stretch more than 90 miles from St. Johnsbury to Swanton.
