    Melody A. Wilson

NORTHFIELD — Melody A. (Brown) Wilson, 57, died unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, 2013, at her home in Northfield, Vt.

She was born Sept. 21, 1956, at Otis Air Force Base, Cape Cod, Mass., the daughter of Robert and Barbara (Mullen) Brown.

She graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, Vt., in 1974.

She married James “Jim” Wilson in Northfield, Vt., on Dec. 17, 1999.

Melody spent her childhood as an “Air Force brat,” traveling with her family until moving to Vermont in her senior year of high school.

Her most cherished times in childhood were her teenage years spent at Loring Air Force Base in Maine, where she made so many dear and lifelong friends. Keep the faith ...

Melody worked for more than 20 years in administration at the College of Science and Mathematics of Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. She had so many fond memories of her time there with students, professors and staff, who became her friends and supporters.

Melody was an avid reader, talented writer, animal and nature lover, and music aficionado. She was unconventional, loyal, generous, liberal, free-spirited, and had a quirky Irish wit. She adored her pets, felt a kinship with wildlife, amassed a large library of books and music, and took every opportunity to see the world. Most of all, Melody was a collector of people. She had the rare ability to travel in any circle, converse on any level, and refrain from ever passing judgment. Therefore, she was one of the lucky few who could genuinely call a widely diverse group of people her friends.

In addition to her husband, Jim, she is survived by her sister, Tammy Brown, and husband John Poulin, of Georgia, Vt.; niece Abigail Ledoux, of Boston; brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Wilson and wife Gidget, of Quincy, Mass.; stepson Corey Wilson, of Burlington, Vt.; former husbands Anthony “Tony” Bean, of Roxbury, Vt., and Rocky Preston, of St. Albans, Vt.; aunt Joyce Comings, of St. Albans; several cousins, friends and soulmate Mark Mars, of New York City.

She was predeceased by both her parents; sister-in-law Annmarie Wilson; several aunts, uncles and close friends; and in 2010 by her beloved dog, Timmy.

Special thanks to her sister-like friend, Linda Gray, for her time, energy and love, and to respiratory therapist Steve Cothalis for his calm and dedication to Melody.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at White Memorial Chapel on the campus of Norwich University in Northfield on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at noon. Casual attire requested.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Melody’s memory to an animal charity of your choice.
