• Crash follows police chase

    NORTH CLARENDON — A Hartland man is in fair condition after allegedly fleeing police following a car crash Sunday morning.

    Around 10 a.m., a Rutland County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for what Vermont State Police Trooper Lewis Hatch called a “traffic violation.” Instead of stopping, Hatch said, the driver took off and hit a telephone pole.

    Police said a person — later identified as 28-year-old Kyle Quirion — fled the crash on foot through the woods. Police used a canine unit to search the woods before finding Quirion as he allegedly attempted to break into a barn on Middle Road.

    Quirion was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear today in Rutland criminal court.
