WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A new program called Veterans Justice Outreach is reaching out to help veterans in Vermont and New Hampshire who are facing issues such as jail time and homelessness.

Deborah Amdur, director of the White River Junction VA Hospital, said the goal is to ensure that veterans who are in the criminal justice system have access to VA mental services and substance abuse treatment.

The VA hospitals in both states are vowing to work more closely with police and judges to get veterans help.
