Police searched this home at 17 Poplar St. in Springfield on Friday and said they found items that could be used in drug activity.

SPRINGFIELD — A local woman, concerned that her housemates were involved with illegal drugs, brought police components of what officers described as a meth lab in the trunk of her car.

Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston said Friday the case was under investigation and no one had been arrested. Police declined to identify the woman.

But Johnston said that based on those suspected components of a methamphetamine lab, police executed a search warrant of the woman’s home Friday and confiscated additional items believed to be used for drug activity.

The home was identified as 17 Poplar St., a short dead-end street.

The two-story home appeared neat and well-kept Friday afternoon, with a late-model car in the driveway. Poplar Street is in one of Springfield’s nicer neighborhoods, a short distance from The Commons, one of the town’s parks and playgrounds.

Springfield police said in a news release that the woman showed police the suspected drug paraphernalia, which she had placed in the trunk of her car, prompting local police to call in the Vermont State Police and its “clandestine lab,” as well as the state Hazardous Materials Response Team.

Police said the home on Poplar Street was “deemed safe” after Friday’s search and there were no hazards to either the home or the neighborhood.

Police said the woman was concerned about the activities of people who were staying with her, although police would not say what that relationship was.
