    McKibben receives

    Pennsylvania honor

PITTSBURGH — The Thomas Merton Center and Pennsylvania environmental groups honored author and activist Bill McKibben.

On Monday evening in Pittsburgh McKibben received the 2013 Thomas Merton Award for his work to alert people to the dangers of global warming. The Merton Center is named after Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk, author, and social activist.

McKibben, who lives in Vermont, is the author of the book The End of Nature and co-founder of the environmental group 350.org, which is campaigning for an end to fossil fuel use.
