WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction is hosting a free open house and information fair Thursday.

The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. in the research building (building 44) at 163 Veterans Drive.

The Department of Veterans Affairs said in a news release that those who served in the armed forces and received an honorable discharge may qualify for health care benefits from the department. At the fair and open house, staff will be available to answer questions and help veterans complete their health care application.

Veterans and their family members can also visit information tables to learn more about Veterans Affairs compensation benefits and available health care services.

Veterans interested in applying for VA health care during the event should bring a copy of their discharge paperwork (Form DD 214), a photo ID and financial information from the previous calendar year.

The open house will have a fall harvest theme. Families and costumes are welcome. There will be activities and games for children including hayrides and pumpkin decorating. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Friends of Veterans, the local VA Union and the Mobile Vet Center will be on site to give out candy to trick-or-treaters.

For more information about the event, call Naaman Horn or Wendy DeCoff at 295-9363, ext. 5889.
