BARRE — Residents with questions about Vermont’s newly launched health care exchange can attend a two-hour forum Thursday night at the Barre Elks Lodge.

Hosted by Rep. Paul Poirier, I-Barre, the forum is set to start at 6:30 p.m. and feature a question-and-answer session after a pair of presentations on the exchange, formally known as Vermont Health Connect.

Speaking will be Emily Yahr, public information officer for the exchange, and Peter Sterling, president of the Vermont Campaign for Health Care Security.

Yahr’s audio-visual presentation will include a big-screen enrollment simulation designed to illustrate and simplify the process.

Through last week more than 50,000 individuals had contacted Vermont Health Connect to inquire about health care policies now available through the state-run exchange. Under Vermont law, all individuals who are not covered by an employer health plan must enroll in the state exchange or face a financial penalty.

The Elks Club will be providing light refreshments, according to Poirier, who said anyone with questions about the forum can call him at 476-7870.
