WILLIAMSTOWN — The service of remembrance and life celebration for Hilda H. Martin of The Gardens was held Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Barre Congregational Church, where she had been an active and faithful parishioner for many years. Her family was at her bedside when she died Oct. 3, 2013, at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The Rev. David Vanderlinde-Abernathy, pastor of the church, led the service. Organist Eric Giles accompanied the congregation in the hymns, “In the Garden” and “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” He also accompanied the congregation in the special anthem, “Let It Be a Dance,” and played a special solo piece, “Come Sunday,” on the piano. The Rev. David read from Scripture and gave the meditation.
Sharing of memories, fellowship and refreshments followed in the church Fellowship Hall.
The graveside service preceded in the Wilson Cemetery in Barre Town with the Rev. Vanderlinde-Abernathy reading the committal prayers.
Daughter Cynthia Martin read the poem “Into the Sunset,” by S. Hall Young, and son-in-law George Longenecker read Mary Oliver’s poem, “Wild Geese,” as part of the graveside ceremony.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, was in charge of the arrangements.
