• Gunfire outside Waterbury bar brings charges
     | October 08,2013

WATERBURY Police say a Waterbury Center man fired a gun into the air Sunday after a confrontation at a bar in downtown Waterbury.

John A. Baran, 42, was at the Prohibition Pig early Sunday when he was told to leave because he was making threatening comments to another customer. Police said Baran left and came back five minutes later and tried to get the other customer to go outside.

One of the workers at the Prohibition Pig went outside to talk to Baran, who then fired a round into the air with a pistol, police said. No one was injured.

Baran was cited on charges of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County criminal court in Barre on Nov. 21 to answer the charges.

Police said reports of someone being shot in the head and chest in Waterbury on Saturday night were inaccurate.
