• Next Vt unionization effort: Child care workers
    October 07,2013

MONTPELIER — A union that wants to represent Vermont child care workers is congratulating another labor group that won the right to represent home care workers last week.

Home care workers, who provide personal care and other services to elderly and disabled Vermonters in their homes, voted last week to join the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Independent child care providers have been making a similar push in the Legislature to be allowed to unionize — so far unsuccessfully.

A branch of the American Federation of Teachers — which is trying to organize the child care workers — congratulated home care workers on their successful organizing drive and made clear they want to follow suit.
