MONTPELIER — This year’s last hazardous waste and special collection by the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District will be Oct. 12 in Montpelier.

The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Labor parking lot and is open to residents of the district for $15 per carload. At the collection, people will be able to drop off fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, mercury thermometers and thermostats, oil paints and paint products, gasoline and some household cleaners.

According to the waste management district, this is the largest collection of the year, so it encourages residents to consider combining loads. Also remember that your wait in line may be 15 to 45 minutes depending on the time of day, so bring reading material or something else to do in the car while waiting.

Schools and small businesses are welcome to participate, but they must call ahead to preregister at 229-9383, ext. 105.
