Police: Inmate hid drugs in body
ST. JOHNSBURY — A Barre man is accused of swallowing packets of a regulated drug in an attempt to bring the drug into the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury.
Vermont State Police say Shawn Braley, 30, was brought to the facility July 9 and subsequently found by Department of Corrections staff to have swallowed packets of the narcotic buprenorphine.
Braley was sent to the facility because he was being held on $1,000 bail on charges that he broke into The Quarry Grill and Tavern in Barre and stole $1,300 in cash in July. He is also facing a charge of shoplifting a box of tampons from Rite Aid.
Braley pleaded not guilty to felony burglary and retail theft in Washington County criminal court in Barre in July. He is to appear in Caledonia County criminal court on Nov. 18 to answer a charge of transportation of a controlled substance into a detention center.MORE IN This Just InAutopsy reveals
