WALLINGFORD — Vermont State Police have released the name of a Wallingford man who died Monday in an incident about which investigators remain tight-lipped.

Police said Tuesday afternoon that Terence Holden, 50, was pronounced dead Monday at his Sugar Hill Road home while his wife, Melissa Holden, 53, was still being treated for injuries at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The names were put out in a state police news release.

Police have said little about the death other than that there were no signs of foul play, that it appeared to be “an isolated incident” and that there was no cause for heightened concern about public safety.

Police also would not comment on the nature of Melissa Holden’s injuries.

Terence Holden’s body was taken Monday to the state chief medical examiner’s office in Burlington. Police said the investigation “remains open pending the results of the autopsy report, including toxicology,” which could take several weeks.

Police arrived at the Holdens’ home shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, responding to a 911 call reporting two people in need of medical assistance. Terence Holden was pronounced dead at the scene while Melissa Holden was promptly taken to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for Rutland Regional Medical Center said late Tuesday afternoon that Melissa Holden was still at the hospital but that no information was available on her condition.
