Police: 5-year-old dies after ATV crash Saturday in Shaftsbury
SHAFTSBURY ó Police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy who died after an all-terrain vehicle crash on Hidden Valley Road in Shaftsbury on Saturday.
A press release from the Vermont State Police said Benjamin Prouty, 5, of Shaftsbury, was pronounced dead at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
After the initial investigation, police said the incident does not appear suspicious.
Detective Sgt. Sam Capogrossi of the Vermont State Police said police were called around 7 p.m. Saturday because of a call made to a 911 operator that a child was not breathing as a result of an ATV crash at his home on Hidden Valley Road in Shaftsbury.
Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks of the Vermont State Police went to the home immediately and assisted in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation until an Arlington Rescue Squad ambulance arrived to take the boy to the hospital.
Detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation initiated an investigation of the death. The childís body was taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a postmortem examination.
Capogrossi said no further information will be available pending the results of the autopsy and completion of the investigation.
